An iconic image of rural meadows, the bright blue cornflower was once a common sight in cornfields, but it has declined dramatically in the wild in the last 60 years. Fields full of cornflowers were last seen in Britain between the wars. Modern farming practices of fertilisers, destructive field edges and pastures have reduced where we see it. The French wear cornflowers much like we wear poppies: as a symbol of remembrance.

Cornflower (Centaurea cyanus) seed ball boxes – beautiful native wildflowers for garden beds and pots, simply scatter and let nature do the rest!  Annual. Height: 90cm. Flowers: June to August.

These iconic and distinctive flowers are fantastic for bees, beetles, butterflies and moths, and are a simply marvellous addition to any wildlife garden. British blue wildflowers. They are also edible with a cucumber-like taste, and can be used in salads, as a garnish or infused as a tea! These are peat free, made in the UK, with no chemical pesticides and RHS supported plants for pollinators.

A beautiful little gift that’s ideal for kids or a year round present for anyone who loves bees and other garden wildlife. Each box contains 6 seed balls packed with cornflower seeds, perfect for 1-2 pots plus a little card to explain what the balls are and how to use them. The packaging is a recyclable card.

What is a seedball?

A ball made from seeds, clay, peat-free compost and chili powder. For the best possible chance of germination. The ball prevents the seeds from being a tasty lunch for birds and insects, thereby increasing the chances of your flowers growing. Plus they’re super easy to use, no digging and no expert knowledge needed!

Throw onto soil or compost in a garden bed or planter in Spring or Autumn, leaving at least 10cm between each ball. Your Seedball has everything it needs to grow and, once the ball becomes moist and the temperature is right, your seeds will germinate!

All seed is responsibly sourced in the UK from Flora Locale accredited suppliers, we only ever use peat-free compost and our steel tins are manufactured in London (with the help of a solar farm on the factory roof).
