Why does it matter that they’re beeswax?
The decline of bees around the world is at the same level of importance as deforestation and global warming. Bees are vital for world survival and up to 1/3 of British wild bees are found to be declining. Honeybees are tended by beekeepers, though still threatened due to disease, both these and wild bees have other issues including pesticides and habitat fragmentation.
You are supporting the bees in their work which means we keep a healthy population to pollinate the plants and food we eat around the UK. The bees produce honeycomb cells where tiny young are nurtured, along with honey and pollen storage. With the interaction from pollen you get a more golden colour to the wax. Beeswax is harvested from the honeycomb and that is why beeswax is precious!
Beeswax candles are less frequently used but are an ancient art; for thousands of years as a light source for their work to continue in the dark for monks, scribes and miners. Beeswax has the golden, warm shine.
We use wax pellets sourced from UK beehives which are then melted and mixed with organic coconut oils and fragrance oils. The candles have a natural low-lying sweet smell and are accompanied by coconut oil (and a fragrance if you choose).
We chose beeswax for the higher quality product over other types of wax, which is more sustainable over paraffin and soy.
Beeswax also has lower toxicity than other choices and if you have allergies (hay fever or asthma) beeswax is a great option.
